Don’t Spend It All in One Place

11/11/2018

Weddings are expensive and there is no getting around it. If you are on a budget, you will soon begin to realize how much this is really going to cost you, if you haven’t already. One of the biggest and most important purchases is going to be your wedding dress. This blog is going to be the do’s and don’ts of wedding dress shopping.

The Do’s:

  • Come to Affordable Bridal Boutique in Provo! Nobody beats our prices and many of our dresses are Private Label, custom made for our store. Come find a unique wedding dress and save money in the process!
  • Do ask what their price range is. Not all wedding dress stores are equal. Some only deal with “high end” dresses that can cost an exuberant amount of money (we’re talking thousands!). This is important to know beforehand if you are on a budget. These are not your stores. If you go, you may fall in love with a dress that you simply can’t buy and then you won’t be happy with the one you end up “settling” on later. Don’t waste their time and don’t ruin your own view of your future wedding dress.
  • Do set an appointment. Many wedding dress stores have a limited number of changing rooms and consultants. If you don’t want to risk getting turned away on a particularly busy day, set an appointment.
  • Do take into account that the price on the tag is not going to be the whole price of your wedding outfit. Almost all wedding dresses will need to be altered. Do not get the dress altered in shop without taking it to a third-party seamstress first. You can often shave hundreds of dollars off of the inhouse price by going to someone else. Other things you will need are your shoes, veil/headpiece, and a belt if you would like one. These can often run hundreds of dollars above and beyond the dress itself.

The Don’ts:

  • Don’t buy your dress online from a site that sells directly from China. Even if you have a family member or friend who is a professional seamstress and offers to fix it, this is risky. We have had too many brides to count come in to our shop saying that their dress didn’t look like the picture, it came in way too big or small, or it didn’t come at all. There are about 10 disaster stories for every 1 success story of buying a wedding dress online.
  • Don’t buy the first dress you try on without trying others, but also be aware of over-shopping. Many times, a bride will be so stressed over finding the “perfect dress” that she will keep shopping even after she has found it and ends up confusing herself. Once you find “the dress,” buy it. But definitely come by Affordable Bridal Boutique in Provo first if you are close by and want to save some money! ;)
  • Don’t be surprised if you go to shop for wedding dresses and find that you are a size or two “bigger” than you normally are in dresses or pants. This is normal because wedding dresses run small. Normally you will fit in to a size or two bigger than your street pant size (except size 2 and 4, they usually run about right).

This is a pretty basic list of do’s and don’ts, but they are important. I hope that you can find the wedding dress of your dreams without spending your whole budget.
Happy shopping!
